Once a week I visit my grandmother where I eat my own weight in chicken schnitzel, hear about her newest ailment (and subsequently her latest cure), fall into a food coma and finally, I pick up my post.

When I see that box, I do a little prayer to the makeup gods: I hope it’s Rouge Bunny Rouge. Mostly it’s the hauls I’d made at 3am and had since forgotten (Surprise! It’s like a gift from your significant other except you paid for it and it’s exactly what you wanted), but this time…

New Rouge Bunny Rouge Lineup: Rain Dove, Rufous-Tailed Weaver, Tanzanite Essence & Impalpable Finishing Powder

SQUEAL
Look at dat bunny!

The new(ish) pretties to join the RBR lineup include: Two eyeshadows (Rain Dove and Rufous-Tailed Weaver), a liquid Quartz Eyeliner (Tanzanite Essence) and the Impalpable Loose Finishing Powder.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Eyeshadow – Rain Dove

Rain Dove is an interesting taupe: a fawn base with an elegant but multifaceted shimmer overlay. I found the gleam to shift from peach to rose, so I’m struggling to categorize it as warm or cool. Let’s just say it’s neutral okay?

In terms of quality, it’s the phenomenal formula that we’ve come to expect from RBR. While pigmented, the shade is very light. I’m fair/medium and the effect is a soft glow to the eyelid as opposed to any colour impact, however, it’s rather pronounced on paler skintones.

Why.are.my.friends.so.beautiful.

New Rouge Bunny Rouge Lineup: Rain Dove, Rufous-Tailed Weaver, Tanzanite Essence & Impalpable Finishing Powder

I blended Rain Dove on the inner half of Taylor’s eyelid and it looked SO gorgeous on her NC10 skintone; a pale rosy taupe that shifts to a peachy taupe depending on the way light hits. So with all my blabber, the official description: Rain Dove is a complex and very light taupe with rosy gold highlights. Errr, that’s pretty spot on (why do I even try?!).

Rouge Bunny Rouge Eyeshadow – Rufous-Tailed Weaver

RBR describes Rufous-Tailed Weaver as a medium taupe with bronze-gold highlights. To me, it’s more bronze than taupe but the definition of taupe is ever-changing and let’s not go there. Unlike Rain Dove, Rufous-Tailed Weaver is pronounced on all skin tones; on me it pulled a warm, medium bronze and on Taylor, it pulled a cooler, green-bronze (as seen above on the outer half of the lid).

The consistent theme between the two eyeshadows is the complex but muted shimmer, both are what I would describe as ‘work appropriate’ shadows.  They’re soft and understated, as opposed to certain shadows in the RBR line (including Abyssinian Catbird and Angelic Cockatiels) that have a heavy, foiled shimmer. Both eyeshadows are the very definition of wearable, suitable for any occasion.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Devotion Ink Quartz Eyeliner – Tanzanite Essence

RBR describes Tanzanite Essence as rich sapphire; it’s a medium blue base with predominantly sapphire and silver shimmers (but a dash of peacock and pink glimmers for ALL TEH complexity). I swatched it above over a black liner for science but it really doesn’t need any base, it’s surprisingly opaque on one swipe despite the super fluid texture. The applicator is amazeballs, relatively stiff and very tapered for precise application of both thick and thin lines.

In terms of longevity, Tanzanite Essence wears like iron, not a single smudge on a long, nightmarish day. If you have sensitive eyes like myself, avoid getting product in your eye because it does sting (no sh*t Karima, this may be a result of my moronic behaviour as opposed to the formula).

Now I don’t mean to toot my own horn but I really loved this look – although the eyeliner is distinctly blue, it’s never overwhelming and has that delicate quality that Rouge Bunny Rouge pins perfectly every single time. This is actually the look I wore in my Top Contours video but the floodlights washed out the gorgeous subtleties. As for the rest of the face: RBR Chestnut-Napped Apalis and Blackpepper Jay Eyeshadows through the socket & Perfume of His Gaze Lipstick on the lips.

The liner is love, well done Rouge Bunny Rouge, perfectly executed.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Impalpable Finishing Powder – Diaphanous

I don’t like powder – you’ll rarely see me use it in my tutorials because I find it dulls luminosity and encourages cakiness. Trust RBR to prove me wrong, I freaking love this stuff, I only wish I got my first impressions on video because it was priceless confusion. Essentially Diaphanous is a translucent powder cased in a mesh protected jar which prevents powder dispersing everywhere and settling onto your vanity (and the depths of your lungs, it’s a minor miracle).

New Rouge Bunny Rouge Lineup: Rain Dove, Rufous-Tailed Weaver, Tanzanite Essence & Impalpable Finishing Powder

The defining factor: it’s silica* based, much like my beloved Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder for eyes. Silica is ultra fine, feather light and has soft illuminating properties (sans shimmers). I used this powder in both looks above to mute unwanted shine in the t-zone and set any foundation tackiness and let me just say, it is truly invisible. I even tried to pile it on to see if I could overdo it and make a mess of myself but nope, even after a third application it was undetectable.

I’m legitimately floored.

Diaphanous blurs pores, enhances longevity of base products, allows powder blusher/bronzer/highlighter to glide on and adhere evenly. It’s everything I wanted SUQQU Loose Nuancing powder to be. The only con I can muster is that silica based products are risky in photographs (not impossible, FYI) but for real life, I can’t recommend this enough. Holy crap.

*= I’ve tried many silica based powders and they’ve all performed differently.

My Final Verdict

The Quartz Ink Eyeliner in Tanzanite Essence and the Impalpable Finishing Powder are the standout winners for me, the latter being a total game changer in my makeup application. The two eyeshadows will really shine on paler skin tones, which better showcase the soft nuances. Rouge Bunny Rouge can be purchased off their web boutique here.

  1. I’ve been meaning to pick up the new powder since it came out, now I’ll definitely grab it! My Chanel Poudre Universelle just doesn’t seem to be cutting lately πŸ™

also that blue eyeliner is delicious…..adding that to my wishlist as we speak.

    1. I haven’t tried the Chanel but I’ve heard good things! Most of my powders are silica based because I like the feather light texture but RBR powder wins in that category πŸ™‚ xx

    1. Sorry to butt in, but I did some swatches on my blog comparing these two colors with Pale Barley. Rufous-Tailed Weaver is closer, but neither is a real match.

  2. Love the attention to detail in this post! I’ve been so close to buying the two eyeshadows a few times but then I think that I’ve too many similar colours. Sigh!

    1. They’re not the most unique shades in the RBR line, if you’re looking for standout colours. Check out Abyssinian Catbird if you don’t own it already, very unique shade and formula πŸ™‚ x

  3. Taylor is so beautiful and her skin is gorgeous!! She has that ‘pretty beauty’ that never looks as if she’s trying too hard. πŸ™‚

  4. Hi Karima!

I was just wondering how you look after and clean your makeup brushes? My first shipment from hakudoko should arrive soon and I want to make sure I look after them properly.

    1. I meant hakuhodo! Thats what you get for being on the internet at 4 in the morning though I suppose. Love the review!

    2. Hey Lucy πŸ™‚
I generally wet wash as opposed to using spot cleaner, I try to avoid using alcohol on delicate/natural hair brushes. To wet wash, I like the Beauty Blender Cleanser Liquid because it doesn’t sud up too much. I wash them very carefully, never mashing the brush into my hand. I dry them in brush guards which helps to keep the shape and allow the moisture to drip down from the ferrule.
      Hope this helps πŸ™‚ x

  5. I completely concur about the two eyeshadow colors. I had such high hopes for them, but even on my NW15 skin, they don’t really show up that much. They are perfectly pretty, but very neutral, and don’t seem to live up to their potential. Sigh. I’ll have to try some of the more pigmented colors! And maybe that eyeliner… πŸ˜‰

    1. They’re not BAM colours, y’know? I think some people will love them for day to day wear. If you’re looking for impact, Abyssinian Catbird, Angelic Cockatiels and Delicate Hummingbird (a bit cool on my colouring but awesome texture). xx

  6. Both you and Taylor are absolutely stunning! I love both looks. The colour combinations and eyeshadow placement are incredible. What did you use on Taylor’s lips?
You both have amazing skin as well. Did you use GA Lasting Silk?

Also, I am intrigued by the RBR powder. It looks very pretty.

    1. On Taylors lips I used a mixture of RBR Irreverence and Word of Mouth lipsticks πŸ™‚
I used Armani Lasting Silk mixed with Le Blanc de Chanel on both of us, but her shade in Lasting Silk is much lighter.
It’s my favourite powder! Never did I think I would get excited over a face powder lol. xx

      1. That’s a shame, maybe i quite enjoy it due to convenience… Plus, i don’t regularly cover my under-eyes. You should try the VS (yes, the lingerie store :P) oil-free concealer then, since you detest stick formulas. Although, you do have to use a brush and warm the product to let it ‘melt’ so it will not result in dragging. Best of luck!

  7. I really like the looks of Rain Dove! I got to swatch a bunch of RBR over the weekend, but the shop didn’t have that one yet. Also, I am totally coveting that adorable bunny.

    1. You are SO LUCKY to be able to swatch <3 I went to a counter once in Dubai and I was like a child in a candy store. I didn't emerge for a solid 2 hours lol. xx

  8. Karimaaa… Out of curiosity, are you still looking for an under eye concealer? I had the chance to try the cle de peau concealer and although the price is cringe-worthy, my first impression on it was quite positive. Of course, i’ve only given it a couple of goes… working my way through the sample.
You should give it a go if you’re fine with the splurge πŸ™‚

    1. Hey Aspyn πŸ™‚
Still working my way through many under eye concealers. I actually did own the Cle De Peau once upon a time, I’m generally not a fan of stick concealers under the eyes so unfortunately the texture wasn’t to my liking. I’m glad you’ve found something you like though!

  9. Hi Karima – So I came for the Impalpable Finishing Powder and stayed for Chestnut-Napped Apalis and Blackpepper Jay Eyeshadows. πŸ™‚ Those are very, very pretty. I love the softness of those matte shades. I may have to scoop those up πŸ™‚ Perfect for every day, sez me.
I just found out that Brocade Skipper and Atlas Swallowtail shades of my FAVORITE cream eyeshadows evah (also RBR) are being discontinued. SBBH (super big boo hoo). I just stocked up. Maybe you can use your relationship with RBR to convince them not to make this tragic mistake.
Thank you for a lovely post! xo sj

    1. Hey SJ πŸ™‚
CNA and BPJ are two of my favourite eyeshadows, I can pair them with just about anything!
Naw, I also love those cream eyeshadows D:
I wish I had a relationship with RBR where I could demand they not discontinue products! LOL. They’ve discontinued a few of my favourites πŸ™ I can only hope that they have new and awesome things in store for us! xx

  10. Am I hearing correctly? You loved a blue eyeliner? I thought blue was your archnemesis :p Or maybe it is only blue eyeshadow… Anyway, beautiful products. I don’t know Karima, you are going to be responsible for my bankrupcy

    1. Hey Catalina πŸ™‚
Seems like I can pull off blue liner but blue eyeshadow is always a no-go lol. Haha sorry about the empty pocket πŸ™ RBR products are worthwhile, though πŸ™‚

  11. Hi Karima, great post. Really intrigued by the powder, I wondered how you’d draw a comparison between that and the Suqqu Loose Powder in Natural you mentioned above^? I was thinking of purchasing the latter but a quick review from you would be great. Also, I wondered whether you’d tried the Vichy Dermablend Setting Powder, I read nothing but rave after rave… would be interesting to see how it compared with the Impalpable, since they both appear similar?

    1. Hey Carla πŸ™‚
The SUQQU Loose Powder is more mattifying than the RBR powder, I think. The SUQQU is not silica based so it doesn’t quite have that invisible quality, but I’d recommend it if you’re more on the oily side.
I do own the Dermablend setting powder, which like the RBR powder, is silica based. This is a good comparison; despite the fact that they both contain silica, the RBR is a little more elegant than the Dermablend. It’s a lighter veil, I can’t overdo it with the RBR but the Dermablend looks powdery if you apply too much.
      I hope this makes sense, it’s 3:30am D:
      x

      1. It absolutely makes sense! Very helpful indeed, thank you Karima.
Oh btw, I was the one who passed on the msg from the Armani sales assistant who told me Lasting Silk was going to be discontinued. I was at the counted again the other day, and she said that although they were told that over spring, they hadn’t heard anything since so she believes the idea has been abandoned due to many customers remaining loyal to it! She added that it won’t have the range of shades Luminous Silk does but will keep the basic shades which continue to be popular. Hope that’s helpful.

  12. Hey Karima, would you recommend the RBR translucent powder for dry skin? I would simply want it for special events to assist with makeup longevity. Or perhaps is a setting spray the way to go? Thanks so much πŸ™‚

    1. Hey Lisa,
I love the RBR Powder on dry skin BUT does special event equate to flash photography? Would not recommend the RBR for flash because it’s silica based so might flash back.
If you’re looking for a powder for flash photography, I recommend the Laura Mercier Translucent. For everyday, the RBR is perfect.
Setting sprays are one of my favourite makeup items, you can pair them with a powder for extra protection πŸ˜‰
      xx

  13. Yeah. I wanna be your friend to squeal over teal and lime shimmers in a plum eyeshadow and send snaps of my garish creations at midday, try to contain each other passing a makeup store and fail to keep it together. None of my friends share my passion (obsession?) of the pretty things. But I live across the world. Meh :/

      1. grad school+ full time work+ just trying to survive :p I thought about it, but I don’t think I would be able to dedicate necessary time and wouldn’t be able to be consistent. An insta-blog maybe. Thanks anyway πŸ™‚
