Shade Information

I am about NC25ish (olive undertones) and I didn’t receive a spot on shade match so I mixed Bisque and Beige.

Bisque is described as ‘fair, warm undertone’. I eyeball it around NC15-NC20.
Buff is described as ‘light, warm undertone’. I’d say around NC20-NC25 but with a peachy undertone.
Beige is described as ‘medium, warm undertone’. I’m guessing around NC30-NC35 with golden undertones.

Nail polish I’m wearing in this tutorial

OPI Taupeless Beach

  1. Hi Karima, wow that looks pretty impressive. I’ve only ever tried two foundation sticks…bobbi brown and a Tom ford one and I hated them both, they didn’t blend well and sat on top of my skin urghhh. I think I’ll go check this one out. Now that foundation brush is calling to me, I have the hourglass NO 7 finishing brush and it’s honestly one of the best brushes in my collection. It’s a kabuki, densely packed and super super soft I love it for liquid foundation and it’s fantastic as a finishing brush as I’m quite heavy handed it blends everything together perfectly. Have you tried it Karima? off topic but can you please tell me your opinion on the best highlighter brush, I’ve been eyeing the chikuhodo Z2, I’d be grateful for your thoughts. Love these posts, thank you.

    1. Not Karima, but I am a bit of a brush nerd, sooo…

I am not a huge fan of labeling things “best”, especially with regards to beauty, because there are just too many variables to consider.

For a highlighter brush, while you’ll have seen Karima using the Z2 in videos, she’s also used a fan brush for powder highlighter. Two different shapes, two different applications. Something shaped like the Z2 would give a more precise application (at least I think it would), while a fan brush gives a more diffused application. (I generally prefer a fan brush, myself.) The “best” highlighter brush for you would depend on what kind of application you prefer. Or! You may prefer two brushes depending on the highlighters you may have in your stash already (e.g., something Z2 ish for your less pigmented highlighters to build the glow up, a fan brush for high shine ones to tone it down).

    2. You should try the Takeda 12S highlighting brush. It’s grey squirrel and it is absolutely phenomenal for highlighting, and just so soft and beautiful. It is Japanese made like the Z2 but a bit less expensive!

    3. You should try the Takeda 12S highlighting brush. It is made from grey squirrel and very soft and lovely. It is Japanese made like the Z2 but a bit less expensive! It really applies highlight beautifully!

  2. I’m tempted to try this. I think I will get it at Sephora so I can return it if I hate it. I did order the buffing foundation brush because I hoard brushes. Not really, but it seems that way sometimes.
I have the Bobbi Brown stick foundation but only wear it every now and then. I usually swirl my brush on the stick and then apply it from the brush instead of directly swiping it onto my face and trying to buff it out from there.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the reformulated Guerlain Lingerie de Peau, if it’s available in Australia. They expanded the color range on it from what I hear.

  3. Karima!!! Please try the new Givenchy foundation! I’ve heard the reformulated version is just as good, if not better, than the original! AND it’s available in a whole bunch of new shades!!!
Give us a review pleaaaaase 🙂

  4. Karima – did you figure out your best shade match by chance? Since I have the same exact skin tone as you, I buy your suggested shade matches vs. doing the hard work of shade-matching myself in store 😛 Thank you!

  5. Have you tried blending it in without the Hourglass buffing brush? I had a heck of a time with blending – I tried using a brush from Real Techniques, Chanel, and even tried my beauty blender for good measure.

  6. I actually really like foundation sticks! I feel that they look best if you use a VERY small amount. If you do that and then spot conceal I find they can look quite undetectable. This Hourglass one is so creamy it’s very easy to use too much. I have oily skin and I can get it to look nice only if I use a tiny bit. My favorite stick foundations are the Tom Ford one (this is so beautiful I think it may be my favorite foundation ever) the MUFE one, and the Lancome Teint Idole stick (this one is especially nice for oily skin because it is almost like a cream to powder formula). If you are oily like me and are concerned stick foundations won’t work for you I would say definitely try using them but use a very very small amount! And conversely I feel they cover dry patches nicely when I do have them because they are waxy and they smooth over the skin.
