I hate to admit this, but generally I don’t enjoy swatching. It’s messy and fiddly and I can spend ages trying to take photos that are true to colour. The main reason I swatch is to have an accurate database of colours that will inspire me to do colourful looks.

That being said, I did these Yaby swatches today and it was truly a pleasure- the colours were pigmented, pictured beautifully and the pigment was soft like butter.

Yaby World of Pearl Paint Palette

I purchased this palette at MakeupandGlow (n/a) a while back and I have mixed feelings about it.

On the positive perspective, the colours are vibrant and the pigmentation is wonderful. The pans are also teeeennyy tiny (you’ve probably read that about Yaby eyeshadow, but fo serious, they are shockingly small) which is great for those of us who never hit pan. On the downside, all the shadows in this palette are pretty high shimmer- in order to make them wearable I’d suggest throwing some mattes into the mix. The soft pigment also means that you have to be careful not to overblend in order to avoid a muddy mess.

Overall, I think it’s a great palette to own if you love shimmer (which i DO!) but don’t expect to do a look using the palette alone (it’ll be a pretty 1980’s outcome).

Here is the palette itself, next to a MAC lipstick so you can all gauge the tiny goodness of these pans:

Now onto the swatches- I did these in bright daylight to illustrate the shimmery nature of the Yaby Pearl Paint range. Some of you may be thinking “WHAT A FROSTY MESS! OMG KARIMA” but hear me out- these are not as over-the-top in other lighting. I’ve done some comparison pictures at the end of this post to show what they look like in various lighting.

Pretty vibrant, no? You can see in some colours (particularly pp001) that there is complexity in the shades, pp001 is blue with a gold glimmer (LOVE).

As promised, here is how the shadows appear when not in direct sunlight. This is row 4:

Indoors, with flash (you’ll notice they appear less shimmery here):

And finally, indoors no flash, not looking particularly shimmery:

What do you guys think? I’m seriously considering getting another Yaby Palette to explore non-pearl-paint finishes. If anyone owns another Yaby Palettte, let me know in the comment box below 🙂

  1. Hello, I heard that the dramaticaly neutral palette is a great buy. In your opinion, with a lot of eyeshadows like fyrinnae, nars, urban decay, mac, do I need this palette ?
Thank you a lot ! I hesitate between the world of pearl and the neutral one.

    1. Hey there!
I think you may need to consider what you’d like to wear. If you like understated neutrals, then go for the dramatically neutral palette. If you love wearing brights (and shimmers), then the pearl paint palette is good to have.
I guess look at your stash and see what’s missing!

    Take care,

  3. Good thing you didn’t throw this palette out! It’s gorgeous and would be so fun to play with! (Even though it may be a bit shimmery for me personally!) šŸ˜‰
