Karima, I could easily spend 10 minutes on my brows too! The eyebrows are my favorite face feature and i find it’s an indispensable step to achieving a polished look for myself. Excellent tutorial! it’s very timely for me because deep winter has arrived in NYC and I’m having a hard time venturing out early from under my comforter, which cuts down on makeup time. This look is so fresh and radiant! And I could always use easy and fast hairstyle tips (don’t care that much about my hair), so thank you. Oh and I really enjoyed your adorable facial expressions also.
Haha I’ve been in NYX during winter and it was TOUGH! Australia is painfully humid right now, if that’s any consolation š

Yes, if I remember correctly your trip coincided with the arrival of an artic blast? I think you were worried about how cold it was going to be and I emailed you to suggest that you pick up some Uniqlo Heat Tech underlayers. Full disclosure: I was worried that the cold weather would severely limit your beauty shopping and that didn’t sit well with me haha. Ahh you’re dealing with severe weather there too . Stay cool & stay gorgeous!
Thank you thank you thank you for that hair tutorial! I usually struggle for 10+ minutes to get all my layers and flyaways into a bun without 10 bobby pins; but this I could even do with just a hair tie.
Simple makeup looks like these are really helpful, hope you can do more videos like this!
(And I 100% relate to your water bottle scene. I somehow knocked my big makeup brush holder off my vanity when I reached for the light switch last night.)
Glad you liked my lady-girl-hair-tutorial haha! I’m always knocking things over D:

Hii karima..do u wear eyeshadow in “real life” i mean daily for going out with friends or to work? Do let us know ur minimal eyeshadow look or any one eyeshadow wash wonders!
Hey Anusha,
Yes, I wear a fair bit of eyeshadow in real life! On minimal days, I’ll often take my contour or bronzer (as shown here) through the socket but I can do a post on one eyeshadow wonders!

A little minimal, a little creative. It’s all good to me! ♥
Yay š good to hear! x
Hi Karima. Would you say the max factor face finity is a dupe for the hourglass veil mineral?
I think I answered this on instagram (or it might have been someone else!) but: no, they’re rather different. The Max Factor is thicker in consistency and the Hourglass far more slippy in texture.

Hi Karima, Apologies that was me as well š I couldn’t see my comment here after it had posted (it sometimes happens) so I thought IG would be the next best place as you are always very diligent with IG replies!
Thank you so much for including sunscreen in the tutorial. I was diagnosed with skincancer last year. I’m free from it now, but I won’t live the house without sunscreen and I always struggle to find ways to include it in my makeup rutine. Sunscreens that work well under foundation, don’t make your face like greasy, and have a high enough spf are hard to find. Do the one you use in this video look good under foundation too?
I love your minimalist makeup videos! Keep them coming. Thank you!!
I would highly recommend the Paula’s choice range. Depending on your skin type of course! I use the hydralight sunscreen which has an SPF of 30+ (however, the AUS website has not approved this yet) I find it leaves a satin finish but is hydrating enough for your foundation to go on smoothly. Additionally, I also use the hourglass primer as it has spf 15 so I have two layers there. I have combo skin and this works really nicely!
Hey Carmen,
Pleased to hear your skin is doing better. I talked a bit about sunscreen in my latest Ask Karima post, check it out š

I know you are one busy bee but maybe you would spend a minute to answer to my question š on a normal day I use only powder foundation and I wonder what would work for me better: face primer like the Max Factor one or a setting spray? If its gonna help I have a normal to dry skin and I don’t have a problem with the way that foundation sits on my skin I just wana make sure that it would stay on my face all day š ?
Hey Mika,
Both primer and setting spray would work well with powder foundation, I’d say try both and see which finish you prefer.

Thank you! And moar natural looks please ??
Yes! More minimal! Amazing work, Karima!
Thanks for the feedback!

Hi Karima,
I have a general question for you (not necessarily related to this post): do you moisturise your skin before applying make up? If so, what kind of moisturiser do you use?
I too have dry skin, and I tend to apply a moisturiser straight after washing my face, otherwise my skin feels tight and uncomfortable. But I find that this reduces the longevity of makeup. I’ve tried to follow some of your routines, but by the end of the day, there is no makeup left on my face!
I’ve recently stopped applying under eye cream, and have found that my under eye concealer is the only product remaining at the end of the day.
Do you think I should apply less moisturiser or none at all, because maybe the foundations that are geared towards dryer skins already have moisturisers in them?
I would appreciate your insight š
Yes, I moisturise very well before makeup. A few questions: what moisturiser are you using? Do you use primer? Set foundation with powder? Have you tried setting sprays?
If you have dry skin, I wouldn’t recommend skipping moisturiser. There is much you can do in the way of makeup to enhance longevity.

Hi!
I use a moisturiser by Eucerin called “Even Brighter”, which I’ve found to be excellent for dry skin (I used to have very flaky skin, but not anymore). It has an SPF of 30 (I don’t like to tan, even though I live in Scotland and there is no real danger of that). Prior to that, I tried Clinique (kind greasy), Clarins (heavily perfumed), and other drugstore moisturisers which irritated my skin. I’ve just run out of moisturiser and I’m wondering if I should consider other brands or if I should just buy the same one.
I don’t wear a lot of foundation; I only use it where I have slight discolouration or redness (around nose and mouth). I use the Photo Finish primer from Smashbox and I’ve recently started setting my foundation with powder (Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless Finish), but I haven’t tried any setting sprays. Maybe I should give that a try?
Thanks Karima!
Stick to the moisturiser you love. Consider trying another primer because the Smashbox might not be helping on the longevity front. Of course, also worth investigating how long wearing your actual foundation is!
xx
Thanks! I shall experiment with other primers under my foundation.
I do like the Photo Finish primer though: it makes my textured forehead skin looks super smooth (when worn alone without additional makeup) š
Yeah, minimal makeup is awesome! Thanks Karima!
Karima! You should try Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balms, much better shade range than the Maybelline Baby Lips and more pigmented too, I think. Good luck!
