Allll the babble about makeup removal and evening skincare!
On a more personal note: still recovering from eye surgery, this video is prerecorded.
Hi, everyone. We're back with the second segment of my skincare series and this is going to be all about make up removal and my evening skin care picks. If you haven't already seen may first installment, do go watch that. I'll try to put a link here; otherwise, you might be a little bit lost. As in the first video, I'm going to do mini reviews as I go so that you can better determine if these products will suit your skin type. Let's get straight into it. So, if I haven't worn makeup or sunscreen during the day, which is quite a large portion of the time, I will cleanse with my La Roche Posay Lipikar Syndet and I will moisturized with the Chantecaille Vital Essence, and then I will face pun back in to bed. However, if I am wearing makeup or sunscreen, I am super diligent about removing it well. It's funny, my best friend Eleanor, who you met in the previous video, jokes that it didn't matter if it was like 4 am and I'm stumbling home from a really, really late night, I will follow this routine to a T, like going through the zombie motions.
Now right off the bat, I absolutely detest makeup wipes. I find them to be irritating and abrasive and there are much better options like the Bioderma Crealine. It's also known as Sensibio but mine says Crealine. Now, I'm sure your guys have heard of it's co-product. This is an absolute work calls for me. I used it for so many different purposes and I think there is one in like every room of my house. It looks and feels exactly like water but it has a very slight scent. It's nothing offensive and it's perfume free, it just kind smells clean. Okay, the way I used Bioderma is I saturate a cotton round and I hold on my eyelids for about a minute and then I'll take another saturated cotton round and I'll run it all over my face. And this remove the bulk of my makeup around 90% or so.
It's a stand out makeup remover in my opinion because it doesn't leave any oily residue. Now what this means is if you are wearing false lashes you can just pop them back in their packet and they're perfectly good for another use. Another fantastic way to use Bioderma is during makeup application. So to clean fall out under the eyes or you could saturate a q-tip and sharpen up your eyeliner and because it doesn't have any oily residue, it's not going to encourage your makeup to migrate throughout the day. So, Bioderma Crealine, super gentle, super effective, perfect for all skin types, even the most sensitive of skins and multi-purpose. Six out of five stars, it is the bomb.com.
My next step would be to go head and remove all my remaining sunscreen and makeup with a cleansing oil. Now you don't really need both of these. You probably only need one but I'm just really fastidious about removing makeup. So I see a lot of misconceptions about cleansing oils. This is not like a herbal oil or olive oil from your pantry. It has emulsifying ingredients in it that allow it to rinse clean. So, if you're acne prone and you're hesitant to use cleansing oil on your face, you really shouldn't be because nothing removes oil and long wearing makeup like a cleansing oil. And if you're concerned about some sort of residue, you can always cleanse afterwards with your regular firming cleanser or whatever you happen to use. So currently, I'm using Fancl or Fancl but I've tried everything from DHC to Shu Uemura to Dermalogica.
Now the way to use a cleansing oil: clean dry hands, dry made out face. Take about one or two pumps and massage the oil into every crevice of your skin. I do it for about three minutes. It is a pet peeve of mine when I see people really roughly wash their face for ten seconds. You really need to work the product into the skin. Now at that point, you add a little bit of water into the mix and the oil starts to turn milky and at this time, you can actually rinse it clean. So Fancl, my favorite cleansing oil so far but in general I think that cleansing oils are revolutionary and there is an option for every skin type, so give it a go if you haven't already. Okay, so by this point, I'm damn confident that all my make up and sunscreen is removed. At this point, I will do a light cleanse with the Lipikar Syndet and that is actually clarify the skin whereas the other two steps were to remove any really long wearing makeup and sunscreen. And then I will moisturize with the Chantecaille Vital Essence. And that's it. Four steps and it takes me five minutes tops.
I feel as though, thorough cleansing has made a huge difference to my skin. It's all about picking gentle products and being consistent, I think. You may have noticed that I didn't mention on an eye cream or a night cream. Let's be real here. I'm 22 years old. I don't have a particularly dry or sensitive eye area and most of the benefits of eye creams and heavy night creams are completely lost on me. Although I should mention when I did sell the Chantecaille Vital essence, one of the selling point was that it works really beautifully around the eyes and I agree with that. I can vouch for that. And that completes the second segment of my skin care series. Keep your eyes peel for the next video which will be all about exfoliants and blemish treatments and some other miscellaneous topics. I shall see you guys then.

Lovely video. And I completely agree with you – cleansing oils are revolutionary! I absolutely adore them and that Fancl one is my favourite too. I couldn’t stand the fragrances in the Shu and Dermalogoca ones, they also stung my eyes :/ I’m not the hugest fan of Bioderma for complete face make up removal – but that is because I have to use a lot and I find it takes too much effort, and I find that it really dries my face, which is odd, because there is nothing in it that should (and I have oily skin). But I do love Bioderma for fixing make up mistakes š
Anyway, I hope it’s not too rude to do this, but I have a make up blog sale where I’m selling a lot of brand new and unused makeup. I’m trying to clear out my far-too-big make up collection. Some brands include: Le Metier de Beaute, Nars, MAC, Laura Mercier, Asian brands, BB creams, Rae Morris and more. Also, I’m shipping from Sydney. Please check it out: sites.google.com/site/muablogsalebroken/
The Tatcha cleansing oil stung my eyes! Which is so weird, because I rarely have that problem with anything. I mainly use Bioderma for my eyes/lips, so that the cleansing oil step isn’t hideously messy (mascara mixing with my lipstick, and so on :P)
I actually check MUA blogsales frequently so I saw your blogsale- unfortunately, I’ve spend an excessive amount recently and I’m trying to cut down. If you have another at a later date, please remind me here, I appreciate it!

So I’m freckly and pale and hence at risk for skin cancer. I’ve wanted to wear sunscreen daily under my makeup but I keep hearing over and over that sunscreen must be reapplied every 90 minutes; it is said that after this time, the chemicals in the formula tend to break down and release free radicals causing skin damage, the opposite of what I’m trying to accomplish! Yet I obviously can’t remove and reapply makeup multiple times a day to slather on more sunblock. Is this a myth? What should I do?
If you don’t mind, I’m actually going to post this question on a skincare forum. I’m a bit rusty on my sunscreen knowledge and I’m curious, too! Will get back to you as soon as I have an answer. xx
Okay, I bring you my findings š
If you are only getting incidental sun exposure, reapplying is not as crucial as chemical sunscreen only degrades once in full sunlight- you might not get that level of sun exposure on a regular day. If you get a more significant amount of sun exposure: go for a physical sunscreen. Physical filters don’t degrade but will rub/sweat off (I imagine for day to day wear, it would stay put).
Did I answer your question? Let me know and I can dig deeper if you’d like!

Thank you for searching for me! That helps a lot because I’m not usually out in full sun all day. I’ll take a look at physical barriers for the days I am out since I burn with even 30 spf. That helped a lot!
I learned something new, too! xx
Thanks a bunch! I know I can’t be the only one wondering– I’d ask my derm but I’m away from home.
I’ve noticed you buy bioderma and la roche posay at somewhat inflated prices. Thought I’d let you know about a site that stock both and other french brands for very cheap (not quite sure about shipping though)
I’ll look at that site, thank you! If you purchase from there- are the products fresh? That is the main reason I purchase from frenchcosmeticsforless. x
oops, the site is https://www.leguidesante.co.uk
You can also buy french pharmacy from escentual.com (I think they ship worldwide). I just placed my first two orders with them(so can’t speak from experience, fingers crossed they arrive safely), buy I’ve heard many good things about them.
Interesting! I can actually buy them in store now (at a markup, dammit Australia!) but it’s much easier than buying online. xx
