The sister post to my cool pink spotlight, behold some of my favourite warm pinks! They hold a special place in my heart.

MAC Party Parrot

MAC is a bit of an asshole when it comes to limited edition lipsticks, case in point: Party Parrot. Impossible to come by unless you’re willing to hound down civilians and offer them big money (I’m persistent, okay?), Party Parrot is a medium-deep neon pink that leans red. Despite my ability to turn fuschia shades red, this does indeed translate to a neon pink on my lips! I’d describe it as a heavy matte formula, not a Ruby-Woo-Sorta-Dry but utmost opaque coverage that you can feel on the lips even after eating. The most vibrant of my picks, I reserve Party Parrot for instances where I want to make a statement (and look particularly intimidating? Weird?)

Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte – M PK 355

I was SO smug when I purchased this, I thought I’d found y’all a dupe for Party Parrot! Alas, it is slightly muted in comparison and lacks the neon edge but still the ideal alternative if you’re not looking to harass or intimidate people. Unlike Party Parrot, PK 355 has a feather-light matte formula with a silicone slip; both shades require that your lips be in decent condition (increasingly a rarity for me). A real winner in the Shu line.

Chanel Rouge Allure – Genial

You all know the journey that I undertook to obtain Genial; wholeheartedly worthwhile. It looks rather similar to Shu Uemura M PK 355 in swatches but entirely different on the lips due to its white base; it has a slightly pastel-flamingo quality on the lips. If you’re a bold risk taker like myself, it is still available on All Cosmetics Wholesale. It’s an old lipstick. You might get a bad one. May the force be with you.

MAC Viva Glam – Nicki

I love a slightly chalky lipstick. There, I said it! It can be done right, I kinda love this example…

Spotlight: Warm Pink Lipsticks

…although my taste is sometimes questionable. Nicki is a light pink with a strong white base and a slight yellow lean that lends a salmon hue. Full coverage paired with a white base is always an unforgiving combination so exfoliate, hydrate, blot and pray. It has a slight sheen and supports an AIDS fund, in case you were feeling guilty about taking part in MAC consumerism.

Burberry Lip Cover – Primrose Hill Pink

The most muted of the bunch, Primrose Hill Pink is brightened warm pink with decent coverage and a glossy finish. It’s ultra comfortable on the lips and, here comes a dirty word… work-appropriate! All round pretty, I’d recommend it for more muted tastes.

Becca Beach Tint – Dragonfruit

What kind of Australian would I be if I didn’t include a bit of Becca? If you haven’t tried the Beach Tint (aka stain) formula, where the bloody hell are ya? (bad Australian jokes I’ll stop now). A newer edition to the line, the good people at Becca seem to have improved the formula: Dragonfruit boasts stronger pigmentation and excellent longevity, used as a cheek stain it sits very close to the skin for a genuine flush. Tacky upon application, Dragonfruit dries down to a satin finish but I did notice a minute amount of glimmer in swatches that doesn’t translate to the lips or face. This shade is best described as a brightened warm pink with a slight watermelon tinge; build it up, tone it down, the world is your oyster. The mofo still separates but for you, Dragonfruit, I’ll shake all day.

Now for some warm-pink inspiration! Three entirely different concepts and personalities featuring a warm pink lip.

Blank Impact

A strong nod to the catwalk, it looks super simple but there is more to it: a strong manicured brow, significant skin-prep (aiming for hyper-real perfection here, falling short due to lack of lighting team) and illuminating pen in shadowy areas for an enhanced illusion of uniformity. Read: blank, not tired. I skipped mascara for authenticity but everyone looks prettier with a bit.

Full face breakdown!

Spotlight: Warm Pink Lipsticks

Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask // A dot mixed in with moisturiser as skin prep, helps keep flakies at bay
Sunday Riley Effortless Breathable Tinted Primer – Light // Excessive babble here
Dermablend Fluid Corrective – 15 Opal // Lots of tedious spot concealing
Chanel Brush – 24 // All time favourite spot-concealing tool. Have since discovered that this is discontinued!? Distressed pleas for a dupe?
Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Pen – 1.5 // Under eyes, smile lines, under brow, above brow, all over my damn face
SUQQU Brow Pen – Moss Green // Used with precision for a defined, flattened brow
Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel – Granite // Matching cool tones, brows carefully combed into place
Shu Uemura – M PK 355 // Applied with a lip brush for stronger impact
A skowl // So key; it’s fashion, darlinggg.

Colour-Blocking

Vibrant, graphic clean lines. A straight flick (as opposed to flirty flick) with a graphic brow and an artificial block on the lips. I used Makeup Geek Electric Gel Liner and quick review, I kinda hated it: quite streaky and impossible to remove so no corrections, you get ONE go at that wing. Sydney forgot it was spring so I had to resort to softbox lighting.

Sunday Riley Effortless Breathable Tinted Primer – Light // BLA BLA BLA
Dermablend Fluid Corrective – 15 Opal // Spot concealer + under eyes. Review coming soon
Makeup Forever Aqua Brow – 10 // Strong perimeters, I used a much lighter shade to avoid a brow that takes over my face
Makeup Geek Eyeshadow – Peach Smoothie // A fantastic transitional shade
MAC Eyeshadow – Soft Brown // Some warmth in the crease, to pull together the lip
Makeup Geek Gel Liner – Electric // Trickiest formula of all time, greatest colour. Will try it in the waterline, as it is absolutely indelible
Rouge Bunny Rouge Long Lasting Eye Pencil – Salome // Hands-down best eyeliner to tightline
Lancome Hypnose Star Mascara – Black // The sample that never died
MAC Viva Glam – Nicki // Picturing a bit cooler than it looked in person, the solid white base plays well with the cobalt liner

Youthful and Flushed

This started off as a flushed look and ended as a kinky school-girl; things escalate quickly. A large placement of blush, plenty of highlighter and fluffy lashes. A side ponytail and a collared shirt for those really committed to the cause.

SUQQU Frame Fix Cream Foundation – 002 // On nose and chin to conceal surface redness
Giorgio Armani Precision Retouch Concealer – 2 // Under eyes, around nose crevice and between brows for all teh illumination!
SUQQU Brow Pen – Brown // Sparingly, aiming for a my-brow-but-better
Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder – Candlelight // A healthy dose on the cheekbones and the eyelid, the small amount left on the brush was dusted all over
Becca Beach Tint – Dragonfruit // Blended over a large portion of the cheeks and dabbed on the lips as a graduated stain
Liz Martins Select Individual Lashes – Short // Dropped randomly to frame the entire eye
Geisha Ink Mascara – Black // To bind the natural lashes to the false

Pinks, check. That was fun! Collecting votes for orange versus red lipsticks next, let me know in a comment.

  1. Y u keep recommending products I can’t get a hold of?! *sad face*
I am in lurve with that Becca lip tint! That is the exact color I’ve been on the hunt for, but I just can’t seem to find anything like it. I tried every lipstick at Dior last week but nada πŸ™

    1. Aw thank you for finding the links but I actually live in Korea! (And have a sneaking suspicion that your natural lip color has something to do with the color)

      1. Oh my apologies! The majority of my readers are American so I always make that error. If you can find Becca, definitely go Beach Tints πŸ™‚ Although, if you dabbed the Shu shade on with fingers, I imagine it would give a very similar effect. xx

  2. I love these posts, Karima. All the pinks look great on you. I have Nicki and I feel iffy about it. ;|
Probably my yellow undertones being emphasized. Yes, second the motion on the vamps!

    1. Nicki is quite a tricky colour :-/ I actually find if I dab a bit on with my fingers, I can wear it very easily to try that! Another vote for vamp πŸ™‚ xx

  3. Gorgeous looks and great/informative/hilarious post as always!

Quick question, how do you shoot your swatch photos? I’m currently swatching my entire makeup collection and am having some serious arm-angle-to-camera-to-head-gymnastic-based issues LOL. Just wondering if you have any tips for how you keep your swatches in your swatch photos all neat and perfectly lined up!

    thanks πŸ™‚
    bambi

    1. Hey Bambi, glad you found it informative!

LOL great imagery, swatching can be a bit of a contortionist exercise!
I found this setup to be easiest: I sit at a desk, in front of a big window. You want it to be light/bright outside but no sun beams directly coming through the window (that will wash out your swatches). I rest my forearm flat on the desk, sit the camera on the table to face my arm- at this point, all I need to do it press the button!
This really helped me because I use a big/heavy DSLR that I can’t control with one hand, this way I don’t need to hold it.
You can then shuffle around for different angles/close ups.
Hopefully this made sense! It’s tricky to explain.
      xx

  4. Haha, I love that all of your shades are neon to at least some degree. You have some sort of magical power to be able to pull off neon warm pink shades just as well as you pull off cool pinks/fuchsias. A MAC artist tried to sell me Nicki when it first came out, doing the wheel of fortune showgirl hand gestures and gushing, “This is _your_ color”. I wasn’t convinced, but somewhat pastel neons seem like a good idea now – I think I’ll spring for Vegas Volt this summer when I’m a little less corpse-pale.

And Dragonfruit! I am defenseless against both multi-purpose and long-wearing products. I have Watermelon, but the latest release of colors seems to be much more pigmented.

    1. Hey Hannah πŸ™‚ Yeah I featured more brightened shades because I’d love to do a muted/MLBB series, too! Although I have amassed quite a few neons πŸ˜›
LOL wheel of fortune, you have me in stitches! Why aren’t you blogging?! Vegas Volt is awesome and I’d probably recommend it over Nicki, it tends to be more flattering/easy to wear.
Lychee and Dragonfruit are slightly more viscous than the previous shades so YES, more pigment πŸ™‚ Highly recommend! Lychee is another slightly chalky pink and actually much easier to wear than Nicki, so check it out πŸ™‚
      Thanks for stopping by! xxkarima

  5. Love love this post!!! I can’t decide which look is my fave!!

I am so addicted to pink lipstick. But every time I get my make up done at a cosmetics counter they always tell me corals would look better on my skin. But guess what? I DON’T CARE!! I will wear pink if I want. πŸ™‚ I wear lipstick to make ME happy. Maybe there is a pink-y coral out there somewhere that will both be a good match with my complexion AND make me happy cuz it’s PINK!

    Love the Shu on you.

    1. Cosmetics counters love to prescribe shades- why can’t you have both?! You CAN have both! If you feel corals suit you well, warm pinks should be harmonious on your skintone. Wear what makes you happy πŸ™‚ xx

  6. Oh Karima how do you manage to always, always look gorgeous!!
I like warm pink lipsticks but they are not always look flattering on my complexion so I really have to be careful..I love how the becca tint looks on you! πŸ™‚

    1. It’s all in the makeup, m’dear πŸ™‚ Burberry Primrose Hill Pink is a great introductory warm pink, I think pretty much everyone could pull it off! xx

  7. I’m so jealus of your skin! And hair!! Looks like I’ll have to drag my Dragonfruit beach tint out! …Although since Becca doesnt label the colors on the tubes, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to figure out which one’s Dragonfruit (I have at least 5 of those little tubes in my drawer). Anyway, thanks for the inspiration!

And I vote for red! (Although not necessarily Vamp red)

  8. Love this series! Blank Impact is totally runway and you pulled it off beautifully. The Burberry Primrose Hill Pink is stunning, and I have to have it. πŸ™‚

I vote reds for next time!

    1. Thanks, Arianne! Blank Impact is one of my favourite ways to wear a bold lip πŸ™‚ I agree, you need Burberry Primrose Hill Pink, it’s just so darn pretty! xx

  9. All three looks are not only utterly beautiful but also thoughtful, unpredictable and very well balanced. You are absolutely stunning and I can’t stop admiring your gorgeous brows!

Are you a fan of light pink and nude lip colours? If so, I would love to know what your favorites are πŸ˜‰

    1. Thanks Jen! I try to introduce new/interesting ideas or everyone would get bored of my face :D! I had terrible brows for most of my life so THANK YOU, brow compliments are the best!
I love light pink/nude shades, I will definitely do a spotlight on those in the future!
      xxkarima

  10. Love your multitude-of-looks posts as always! And the Sisley mask: is it really as awesome as I hear? I’ve wanted it for aaaages but the price tag makes me cringe.

    1. Thanks Adele! It’s a bloody pricy mask that I kinda fell for, I rarely use it alone (mainly as a dot in my moisturiser when I feel a bit dry and lackluster). I really think most people could find a much cheaper alternative but I avoid all that trial and error so I just swallowed the price tag. xx

  11. You look incredible in Youthful and flushed. My favorite look. Sadly, I cannot pull off the flushed look because I have a fat red face so evening out my skin is impossible. My dream is to sport a healthy flush. I am not sure if you like Estee Lauder products but they have a rosey flush that is perfect for this look too!
Have a lovely Sunday! Well for you it may be Monday already πŸ™‚

    1. Actually, I’m also naturally flushed/red in areas so this can be a tricky look for me to pull off, too! Did you see my most recent video? I spoke about a few tips to rock your natural flush and that is what I do most of the time. Basically, I have to counteract the redness on my jawline and close to my nose, so I’m ‘carving’ out my blush lol.
      xx

  12. I have recently stumbled upon your blog .. loving it to the core .. love your makeup looks and recommendations. I am in love with warm pinks as i am olive skin toned, they compliment my skin tone. I am going to buy that Party parrot for sure

    1. Welcome! So pleased you’ve been enjoying the blog πŸ™‚ Sadly Party Parrot was limited edition and it’s very hard to find now (just to clarify, you may be able to buy it off someone). xx

  13. These are just gorgeous!!! I love warm pinks and Burberry Primrose Hill has a very special place in my heart, it’s among my favorites. Another really nice one is Nars Niagara, at on my pigmented lips is very close to Primrose Hill.

  14. I love warm pinks, but I have cool undertones–do you think I could wear something like Dragonfruit or is it too warm? Btw, I adore your blog, esp the vids! Your looks are always so modern, precise, and show the perfect amount of restraint. Loves it….

    1. I actually like warmed tones on cool skin, I think the contrast can be really pretty! If you’re looking for a warm pink, Dragonfruit would be a great place to start because you can really tone it down or dilute it with lip balm, if you please. Thanks for your kind words, I do try to showcase more modern takes on makeup πŸ™‚
      xxkarima

  15. Awesome looks! The youthful and flushed is particullary stunning… Anyway, you are really beautiful!!!! I really enjoy your videos and your sense of humour… Just a question: I canΒ΄t find the 24 Chanel Brush… Really love if I could find something to “erase” spots, and I trust your expertice so… Any dupes? Alternatives? Ideas? Thanks for all, Karima!

    1. Aw thanks so much Ana! So kind. As I mentioned in the post, the Chanel 24 brush has been discontinued and I currently don’t know of any dupes, so I’m hoping one of my readers will advise me! An alternative is a fine eyeliner brush, this helps to place product very precisely and then you can blend by dabbing with a finger.
      Hope this helps somewhat! xx

    1. Hello Chris πŸ™‚ I mean, it’s brightened but I wouldn’t call it garish (although I DO have garish tastes!). You can always mix it with a primer or a moisturiser and apply it like that, if you’re looking to tone down the colour. It’s such a great product!
      xx

  16. Still waiting on your review of the Vichy Dermablend products, Karima… Especially interested in what you think of the foundation/powder! Please make a post soon ^^

  17. where did you find that she uemura M PK 355?? i’ve been looking for it everywhere, can’t even find it in their website anymore
