I put the NEW Cover FX Custom Cover Drops to the test in this first impressions foundation review! See how it performs on a normal/dry skintype PLUS a review from a guest blogger with combo/oily skin 🙂

FYI: I have normal to dry skin and I’m about an NC20 in depth.

Go check out Michelle’s youtube channel & blog!

Final Look

So here is the full face shot…

Cover FX Custom Cover Drops | First Impressions

My photography skills are amateurish but here are some close ups of the dry areas, hopefully you can see what I mean!

Can you see the product sitting awkwardly between my brows? Crevice of the nose? Smile lines exacerbated? Maybe? I TRIED.

Other mixing scenarios

As per Michelle’s recommendation, I tried mixing the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops with the Dr Jart+ Day Tint and the result was MUCH nicer; the day tint is very emollient so it didn’t pick up on dry patches quite as much. This mixture provided a very dewy finish but it didn’t last a full day on me – it began to break up a bit towards the evening.

I tried mixing it with some of my skincare (MV Rose Protective Moisturiser, my favourite) and it separated on the back of my hand so clearly a conflict in formula.

I mixed a drop with my favourite foundation, Armani Lasting Silk, which bumped up the coverage a notch but the combo wasn’t as kind to my dry areas as it would be if I wore the Armani alone.

Td;dr version: despite being a rather liquid formula, the Custom Cover Drops are a more matte/dryish formula alone so dry skin types will need to experiment with emollient mixers. If you have oilier skin, I imagine that you won’t encounter many issues and experimenting would be a less tedious task!

  1. Does this mix well with the MUFE hd foundation? It mixed well with my ASAP and Alpha-H tinted moisturisers.

  2. Thanks for this review. Other honest reviewers I read regularly also were disappointed in these drops, but Wow! did this stuff take off like fire across the beauty blogosphere for a few weeks! So i really appreciate your honesty, Karima! It helps soooooo much.

  3. Both my sister and I tried this product and tried various mediums to try and get it to work. It was a big disappointment and it went back to sephora.

  4. Hey Karima

I totally agree with you about this stuff sitting awkwardly on the skin – I tried mixing it with some Embryolisse and it brought out texture on my forehead that I didn’t even know was there! The colour I have (N10) is such a good match for me, however, that I am determined to get some use out of it – I actually quite like using a tiny bit neat as a spot concealer (a la Lisa Eldridge).

    xx

  5. I had the exact same problem – it catches on my dry spots and emphasizes them. It also does not mix well/separates from some bases. The best use I’ve found it to mix with my NARS tinted moisturizer, which has always been too yellow for me. It also amps up the coverage a bit.

      1. There is a white foundation by manic panic which doesn’t change the formula of whatever you add it to; apparently it’s quite cheap so you could try that

  6. Those droppers look so cute! Definitely want to check this out at Sephora but I’m not sure if they’re worth the price tag so I’ll need to have a play around with the testers first šŸ™‚

  7. I’m the shade 52 for the Bourjois foundation and I want to get the Cover FX concealer but I don’t know what shade would suit me. Does the G20 match for you?
