Rouge Terrybly in Terribly Nude #100

My first Rouge Terrybly, I distinctly remember purchasing it because it cost me 85AUD; I kid you not, how do you forget paying that sorta dough on a lipstick? Thankfully, Mecca Cosmetica has since reduced the price to 66AUD.

Terrybly Nude 100 is quite a balanced nude with equal parts beige, pink and a touch of mauve – it’s many miles above your run-of-the-mill, blank out nude. It pales down my pigmented lips just enough that I can rock a stronger eye or a stronger blush but not so much that my pout disappears from the surface of my face. I’ve noticed that Nude 100 can lean slightly ashy on deeper skintones so if you’re above an NC35, it’s advisable to try before you buy (always a good idea but y’know).

It was only after significant head-cranking and close inspection that I noticed a minute amount of glimmer in swatches that doesn’t translate to the lips (generally a deal breaker for me, my chapped lips don’t need the extra attention). Nude 100 wears evenly but has discernibly less longevity than some of the deeper shades; it’s a payoff – you want a heavy nude that makes a home in your lip lines? Didn’t think so.

The options are endless with a workhorse nude but my one of my favourite Nude 100 pairings is a stronger eye that lies on the cooler spectrum to tie in the pinkened-mauve undertones of the lip. Shameless repost of a previous look, as the lips pictured very true to life…

By Terry – Rouge Terrybly in Terrybly Nude #100 // Fail safe nude
Urban Decay – Naked 3 Palette // My review, critiques and looks here
Rouge Bunny Rouge – Eye Kohl in Salome // Soft enough to smudge but doesn’t melt down my face during wear
Rouge Bunny Rouge – Long Lasting Eye Pencil in Salome // HG tightlining product, applies like an epoxy and does not move
Kiss Lashes – Trio Short Combo // Found an online stockist! WOO!
Guerlain – Four Seasons Bronzer in Nude 00 // The bronzer for people who don’t like bronzers (geared towards fairer skintones)

Rouge Terrybly in Cupid Peony #300

Cupid Peony is a pale, brightened pink with a warm undertone that evokes a flamingo edge (I liken it to Becca Beach Tint in Lychee… but on steroids). It also has a strong white base that lends an artificial, neon obnoxiousness so stands apart from the face like DAMN gurl wat dat lipstik on ur face?

By Terry Rouge Terrybly Part 3 – Terrybly Nude & Cupid Peony

Like a moth to a flame but I never learn, strong white bases are a nightmare than not even the glorious By Terry could master: Settles into lip lines, draws in every flake and the greatest of lipstick tragedies- the white tide line of death. I could barely wear Cupid Peony for an hour before developing a rim of white pigment where my lips meet. Unable to admit defeat, I tried it over Bite Beauty Line and Define Primer and even as a cream blush…

By Terry Rouge Terrybly Part 3 – Terrybly Nude & Cupid Peony

It performed beautifully on the cheeks (dabbed on with a duo-fibre stippling brush) but alas, I don’t even need to zoom in for you view my every lip crease and crack. The only Rouge Terrybly that I wholeheartedly don’t recommend. But dat colour 🙁

Exploiting every opportunity to concept-clash, I paired the decidedly pretty pink lip with a grunge-y mustard haze around the eyes and a boyish, straight brow.

By Terry Rouge Terrybly – Cupid Peony #300 // On lips and cheeks. Breaks my heart
SUQQU Brow Pen – Moss Green + Brown // Layered the two shades to form a strong, straight brow
Anastasia Beverly Hills – Tinted Brow Gel in Granite // My pick for texturising bold brows. I detect shimmer in the tube but thankfully, none once applied
MAC Eyeliner Pencil – Teddy // A warm brown, roughly lined upper and lower lashline to give depth to the hazey eye
MAC Prolongwear Eyeshadow – Uninterrupted // A murky mustard shade, very cool and unexpected

That’s three out of four installments of the series done! Next: The deeper shades.

  1. Such a shame about cupid peony, it is a gorgeous colour!! I wanted to buy it from the first post with the pictures of all your shades. Thank you for the honest review!

    1. SUCH a pity šŸ™ I was most excited about Cupid Peony, it’s such a Karima shade. Still deciding if I should keep it for cheek use.. hmm. Always a pleasure, m’dear! x

  2. I’m not usually a nude person, but this one is tempting me liek woah. Every girl needs one, right?

And damn, it’s too bad about the formula (and *face palm* oh, is THAT what happens to make the white line appear?!), because DAYUM. Also, I never thought I would love mustard eyeshadow, but there you have it.

    Shani x

    1. I’m into nudes, I feel like I can’t pull off a very strong eye without paling my lips down somewhat. Maybe you can, and don’t need a nude šŸ˜‰
White lines = dud formulas. Not much can be done about it, sadly šŸ™ xx

  3. That Cupid Peony is amazing as a blush on you! What a great color. Do you know of any blushes that shade that isn’t a lipstick? Love the nude lippie on you as well. That mustard eyeshadow works really well with the whole look. Love it!

    1. Hey Carlyn,
The Becca Beach Tint in Lychee is in a similar colour family (perhaps a touch cooler) and shares Cupid Peony’s brightness. That one is meant for lips and cheeks šŸ™‚ xx

    1. Yeah Cupid Peony is a shade that works best on pale/medium skins but don’t worry, the formula is too much hassle anyway! Thanks Michelle šŸ™‚ x

  4. Gorgeous looks! I especially love the second look – you look better in warm tones IMO.

I’m a huge fan of 100, but it can sometimes look ashy on me. The texture is soooooo nice, though!

    1. I much prefer warm tones on myself šŸ™‚ Yes it definitely can turn ashy on some skin tones, I find once blotted it seems to work best. The texture is the BEST! xx

  5. I have been following your blog for a long time and I think you are one of the few truly talented bloggers. I’ve never commented before but I felt the need to upon seeing your second look- tutorial please!!! That brown smokey is gorgeous and effortless, especially since it doesn’t include winged liner. So again, PLEASE! I need this look in my life haha

  6. Nude is probably the *only* colour family which I am lacking in my minimalist wardrobe. You pull off that nude Terrybly well. šŸ˜› I wonder if it’d be too dark for my preferences? Actually, I think the slight darkness in the lip lends a kind of sophistication to it. But maybe it’s just yo face in general. <3

    1. LISA <3 <3
It's not a dark shade but if your lips are very pigmented, it can turn a touch ashy. Try it in store if you can šŸ™‚
Naw, I felt so warm and fuzzy when I saw your comment here šŸ™‚ xx

  7. What foundation do you have on in the picture where your wearing lipstick in cupid peony? Your skin looks so flawless!!!!

  8. I sure hope MAC never stops making Uninterrupted. Every time I pull it out or see it in a vid or blog I get this irrational, panicky urge to go buy three backups. I haven’t seen any other shade out there that dupes it. LOVE!
